Terms and conditions
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Two parts. Part A covers using this website. Part B covers copywriting projects. These terms apply to projects accepted on or after October 13, 2026.
The short version
- Published prices are starting points. Your written quote sets the final price, and it’s valid for 30 days.
- 50% deposit to start. The balance is due within 14 days of delivery. Projects over $2,000 can be split 40/30/30.
- Two rounds of revisions are included. A round is one consolidated set of feedback, sent within 14 days of delivery. More rounds are $85 an hour, quoted first. There is no money-back guarantee.
- You own the final copy once the invoice is paid in full, by written assignment.
- You approve every factual, legal and health or finance claim. If you send the emails, you’re the sender.
- Washington law applies, with disputes handled in King County.
Part A. Using this website
Using the site
This website is for businesses and adults. By using it you agree to these terms. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
Our content
The text, design and samples on this site belong to Steven Russell Walker. Please don’t copy, scrape or republish them without asking. The sample pieces are fictional and were written for this site to show our style. They are not work for real clients.
What the site promises
The site is provided as it is. We try to keep it up, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. Nothing on it is a promise about the results your own copy will achieve. Links to other websites are there for convenience, and we aren’t responsible for what’s on them.
Liability for the site
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses that come from using this website or relying on it.
Part B. Copywriting projects
Quotes and scope
A quote sets the deliverables, the word or page count, and the price. It’s valid for 30 days. A project starts when you accept the quote in writing (an email is fine) and we receive the deposit. Prices on the website are starting points, not offers. The written quote controls. Work outside the quoted scope, such as extra pages, a new direction or additional rounds, is quoted separately.
Deposit, invoices and payment
A 50% deposit is due on acceptance. The balance is due within 14 days of delivery. On projects over $2,000, we can split payment 40/30/30 at milestones set out in the quote. We invoice by email and don’t collect payments through this website. Prices don’t include any sales or similar tax that applies, and if tax applies the quote will say so.
If an invoice is overdue and we’ve sent a written reminder, we may charge a late fee of 1% per month on the unpaid amount, or the maximum the law allows if that is lower. We may pause work while an invoice is overdue. Final files are released on full payment (see “Rights and ownership”).
Revisions
Every project includes two rounds of revisions. A round is one consolidated set of feedback from you, sent within 14 days of delivery. Revisions refine the copy within the original brief: tone, clarity, structure, wording, and facts you correct.
A new brief direction, a new audience, a new offer, extra pages or sections, or feedback that trickles in over many days isn’t a revision. We’ll quote it as additional work. After 14 days, or after two rounds, the deliverable is considered accepted. Further changes are billed at $85 an hour, quoted before we start.
Revisions are how we fix problems with the copy. They aren’t a refund guarantee, and we don’t offer a money-back guarantee.
Cancellation
If you cancel before work starts, we refund the deposit less $50. If you cancel after work starts, we keep a kill fee: 50% of the quoted price if you cancel before the first draft is delivered, 75% after the first draft is delivered, and 100% after final delivery. If we have to cancel, we refund the part of what you’ve paid that we haven’t earned, and neither of us owes the other anything further. If you go silent for 30 days, we’ll close the project and bill for the work done. Restarting may need a new quote. The same rules, in plain table form, are on our refund policy page.
Rights and ownership
When we’ve received full payment, we assign to you the copyright in the final delivered copy, which is the text you approved or published. Until you’ve paid in full, you have a limited, revocable permission to review the copy, but not to publish it. We keep our drafts, rejected ideas and working notes, along with our general know-how. Your own material (brand text, logos, data, product facts) stays yours, and you give us permission to use it for the project.
We only show your work as a sample with your written permission. An email is enough, the default is no, and we’ll remove anything confidential first. We don’t need credit on the copy. If anything in the copy comes from a third party, such as stock text, a quote or data, its own license applies, and that’s your responsibility unless we expressly supplied it.
For larger projects, we may ask for a typed-name acceptance of the quote and these terms to put the assignment in writing.
Your claims and your emails
You provide accurate facts, timely feedback and access to anyone we need to ask. You approve, and are responsible for, every factual, legal and health or finance claim in the final copy. We aren’t lawyers, and we don’t give legal, medical, financial or regulatory advice. We may flag a claim that looks risky, but that’s a courtesy and not a legal review. If your industry is regulated (health, supplements, finance, legal, alcohol, cannabis, children’s products, for example), have your own counsel review the copy before publication.
If a claim relies on proof, such as a statistic, an award or a testimonial, you need to have it, and testimonials must be genuine and used with permission.
If we write emails for you, you are the sender. CAN-SPAM and similar rules are yours to follow: an accurate sender and subject line, a physical postal address, a working unsubscribe link, honoring opt-outs within 10 business days, and having the right to email each recipient. We write copy to fit those rules, and your email platform and list are your own.
We don’t promise rankings, traffic, conversions or sales. Those depend on many things we don’t control.
AI use
People write and edit every piece. We don’t deliver machine-generated drafts. If we use an AI tool for research or transcription, we say so, and we don’t paste your confidential material into public AI tools without your permission. If you want a project done without any AI tools at all, say so in the brief and we’ll confirm it in the quote.
Confidentiality
Each of us will keep the other’s non-public information confidential during the project and for 3 years after it. That doesn’t cover information that is already public, that we knew independently, or that the law makes us disclose. We store your materials with care. If you want a separate NDA, send it and we’ll read it before signing.
We don’t use outside writers, editors or subcontractors on your project without telling you first.
What we promise, and what we don't
We’ll do the work with reasonable care and skill, and the copy we deliver will be our own original work. That’s it. We don’t promise results, rankings, approval by anyone, or fitness for a regulatory purpose, and to the extent the law allows we exclude other warranties. Common phrases and slogans can resemble things others have written, so please check trademarks and brand names yourself before you use a new slogan.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for a project is limited to the fees you paid us for that project in the 12 months before the claim. We aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits. This doesn’t limit liability for fraud or willful misconduct, or anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
You’ll cover claims that come from material you supplied, claims you approved, or your use of the copy in a way that breaks the law, to the extent they’re caused by those things.
Ending a project
Either of us can end a project by written notice. Payment for work done, and the cancellation terms above, still apply.
Law and disputes
Washington law governs these terms. If we disagree, start by writing to the other and talking in good faith for 30 days. If that doesn’t settle it, we’ll try mediation in King County, Washington, and split the cost. If mediation doesn’t work, either of us may bring the matter in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and both of us consent to that jurisdiction. Small claims court remains available to either of us.
General
The quote and these terms together are the whole agreement, and if they conflict the quote controls. If a part is unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something once, it doesn’t mean we’ve given it up. Neither of us can assign the agreement without the other’s written agreement, except in a sale of the business. Events outside our control that delay either of us aren’t a breach. We give notices by email. Accepting by email counts as electronic signature. We are independent contractors to you, not employees, partners or agents.
